Do you know much about Exploring in the Boy Scouts of America's total programs?

It is a program that is career oriented. While Scout Troops and Venture Crews may involve Scuba, an Explorer Post that is Scuba orieted will be mostly Scuba in its activities. (HERE is their website)

Cutting to the chase, learn more about Exploring and see if your shop might want to sponsor a Scuba oriented Post. Why?  Because this is a group of youth with friends and family that can be good dive customers for instruction, gear, and travel. Also, since it is career oriented, the instruction may very well extend into Pro levels after aging up. You can provide a very strong base set of skills that sets them up for you providing them with a successful IDC experience.  As a matter of fact, maybe that is the accepted goal of membership:  Pass the IDC.

Five Star Leadership® has a commitment to the Boy Scouts of America® and how that organization develops youth. We have leadership programs that are fully integrated with how the BSA® presents these skills. We build on these in an Advanced Skills methodology. We provide these as a cost-only program in support of the BSA®.

Please send me an email regarding these programs: This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Scoutership PTC 2018

PTC

UPDATE 5/16/18. The Scoutership is closed for this year.  We were able to help FOUR Scouters! Feel free to donate for 2019 on our Donate button to the right!

“Hello” all Scouters out there! The leadership development foundation I volunteer with (oafound.org) agreed to my proposal to help a Scouter in 2018 attend Commissioner’s Week June 10-16 at Philmont through a Scoutership. I will be attending the Advanced Leadership Seminar and there are a multitude of interesting programs. http://www.philmontscoutranch.org/PTC/ConferencesE.aspx

The Scoutership will basically pay for 50% of the Philmont fee and travel expenses. We are trying to help someone who needs a bit of an assistance. Those interested will simply supply via an email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. the answers to:

  1. What course you would take and the reason? (Think Eagle Board type of answer)
  2. How much will the trip cost including fees and travel (Don’t be shy, but be budget minded).

Yours in Scouting

David

Ready Set Dive!

Ready Set Dive Project: New for 2017!

The project is named for the divemaster command “Get Ready, Get Set, Dive!” to get all divers in the water safely. The project maintains this attitude of being ready to dive, set to go, and into the water for adventure for adaptive diving for the physically handicapped. The Ready Set Dive (RSD) Project’s aim is to help support the extra hard and soft costs an adaptive diver has learning scuba, travelling for diving, and diving. An understanding of the audience for this project can be gained by reviewing the goals and activities of several key organizations: The Handicapped Scuba Association (https://www.hsascuba.com/ ), Dive Pirates Foundation (http://www.divepirates.org/ ), International Association for Handicapped Divers (http://www.iahd.org/ ). The RSD Project does not replace or compete with these efforts; rather it is the project’s mission to support those helping others. Oafound.org has donated $1,100 in 2017 so far to these organizations - funds raised in addition to regular programming!

PADI(r) and Scuba-scouts.org designed a PowerPoint presentation suitable for Roundtable Meetings and other opportunities to educate Scout Leaders (Youth and Adult) especially Venture Crews on the various elements of Scuba that fit in the various Scouting Programs… all levels.  Click HERE for the handout version.

Call David Smith (619-876-6343) if you would like to discuss having this presentation made to you personally or to a group,  David is founder of Scuba-scouts.org, a PADI Instructor, and Eagle Scout.
